We Are family

The creation of D-5 began with a love for music at an early age by Jerfson and Apryl Delphonse. They both were drawn to musical instruments in Elementary school. Jerfson took an interest in the keyboard at the young age of seven, while Apryl took an interest in the saxophone at the tender age of ten. With the help of their parents, their musical passion started early and would eventually grow into a career. They were predestined to be a part of the musical world.

Joshua, who is the oldest of the three children, started playing the drums at the young age of two. He continued to use his gift as he got older by becoming the church’s drummer. Joanna, the middle child, has been singing since the age of four. Her outgoing personality and spirit filled worship allows her to minister like a person beyond her years. Lastly, Jasmine, the youngest child has been singing since the age of three and though small in stature, her voice is unmatched. She has such a powerful sound that is sure to amaze.

Jerfson’s mother was very instrumental in the development of his musical career. She bought the keyboard which was originally meant for his older brother and would make him play at many different church functions; even though he had little knowledge of how to play. This sparked the love for music that continued throughout Jerfson’s life. The interest in music was very similar for Apryl as well. While in Elementary School, she heard the musical sound of the saxophone and she knew that was the instrument she wanted to play. Her parents purchased a saxophone and that was her instrument of choice throughout her musical career. Her love of music inspired her to pick up learning how to play additional instruments, which included the flute and the oboe.

As years went by, no one knew that Jerfson and Apryl’s love for music would eventually draw them to each other. They both attended Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University (FAMU) where they met at Watson Temple Church of God in Christ and the rest became history. Their union brought three beautiful children Joshua, Joanna, and Jasmine Delphonse who each shared their love for music. Hence the name D-5. It is no wonder this family is drenched in musical talent.
